Research Matching Grant Scheme

Office of Research Affairs and Knowledge Transfer Sources of External R&D Funding Research Matching Grant Scheme

The Research Matching Grant Scheme (RMGS) offers an excellent opportunity to diversify research funding sources, establish collaborations with industry partners, and enhance the social impact of research.

Under the RMGS, donations, research grants, and research contracts from non-government/non-public sectors received by the University from 1 May 2025, and designated solely for research-related purposes, are eligible for matching. These funds can be used to support a variety of research-related expenditures, including but not limited to project consumables, procurement of research equipment and software, and research activities for staff and students.

Relevant guidelines, procedures, and FAQs for the RMGS:

The new round of RMGS will operate from 1 May 2025 tentatively until 30 April 2029 to fully allocate the $1.5 billion provision of research matching grants. Each institution will be subject to an upper limit on the amount of matching grant they can receive within each financial year. The relevant information for HKMU is available below.
