Q1.

Why does HKMU need a new campus?

With the continuous increase in the full-time student population, the University's current campus space and facilities are insufficient to meet the needs of its quality education. In view of this, HKMU proposes to use an abandoned slope land at the corner of Sheung Shing Street and Fat Kwong Street to build a new academic complex.

What is being planned and where will the campus be located?

HKMU proposes to use an abandoned slope land at the corner of Sheung Shing Street and Fat Kwong Street to build a new academic complex. The additional space would enhance the University's campus infrastructure to achieve its missions of providing quality education and training talents for the Hong Kong economy.

How will the new campus enhance the teaching and learning environment of the University?

The new university campus is set to revolutionise the teaching and learning environment through the integration of advanced technology in smart classrooms, flexible design for adaptable learning spaces, and seamless connectivity for easy access to resources. The design prioritises a sustainable and healthy environment, enhancing cognitive function and well-being, while fostering a sense of community. By harmonizing advanced technology with a conducive physical environment, the new campus aims to elevate education, supporting diverse learning styles and promoting enhanced learning outcomes.

How will the new campus benefit the community?

  • Enhance teaching and learning facilities to nurture talents for the development of Hong Kong
  • Enhance training capacity of healthcare professionals to serve the ageing population
  • Organise educational programmes and activities to promote community health and wellness
  • Build a convenient footbridge walkway to enhance public accessibility and reduce the flow of pedestrians on the road to improve road safety
  • Provide diversified facilities to uplift the physical and mental health of students and the community
  • Preserve the biggest tree and plant new trees to maintain green environment

How will the new campus be environmentally friendly?

The new campus will blend with its surroundings with sustainable designs and enduring materials. Our aims is not only to build a state-of-the-art building but also incorporate healthy and smart elements to achieve the well building standard.

Q6.

How will the construction impact be mitigated?

The construction will adopt well-planned methodology to reduce noise and dust emission, which will include MiC and BIM.  During the construction stage, the contractors will be required to adhere to the strict requirement in reducing noise and dust as well as construction waste, and adopt necessary traffic arrangements to mitigate the nuisance to the community.

What kinds of learning and teaching facilities will be available in the new campus?

There will be a multi-purpose hall, lecture hall, library, exhibition area, lab space, flexible classrooms, makerspace and outdoor learning space at different parts of the building.

What kinds of sports facilities will be available in the new campus?

There will be a sport club, basketball court and futsal pitch at roof.

Q9.

When will the construction be completed?

The new academic complex is estimated to complete in Q2 2028 and commence operation in Q3 2028.
