The Student Affairs Office (SAO) supports students to explore the world globally with the Global Internship Scheme (GIS) in 2025 by providing subsidy to students who have successfully completed the SAO recognized global internship programmes. The Scheme aims at encouraging students to obtain invaluable global work experiences to connect their classroom studies to the real working world and broaden their horizons.

  • encourage students to gain exposures from internship globally which will enhance their competitiveness and employability;

  • enable students to immerse in different culture and environment to enhance their global outlook;

  • provide valuable experiential learning opportunities to students to articulate their studies to the real working world; and

  • hone students' communication skills and soft skills related to workplace.

Virtual Internship: HK$5,000

Physical Internship: HK$10,000

The subsidy is for an awardee who has successfully completed a recognized global internship and has fulfilled all Scheme requirements. Please note that the subsidy will be given to eligible students as part of financial support and it does not intend to cover all student internship costs. The Scheme authority, i.e. SAO, has full discretions in determining the subsidy level of each application and rejecting the application.

  • Be a full-time undergraduate of the University *Non-final year student will be given first priority;

  • Land a global internship which is recognized by SAO in 2025 summer (please refer to the following “SAO Recognized Global Internship Programme List”);

  • Obtain an average GPA not lower than 2.0;

  • Not be suspended, on disciplinary hearing, or on academic probation; and

  • Priority will be given to students who did not awarded the subsidy before.

  • Each awardee must complete the internship with satisfactory performance and provide a proof of completion of the internship (e.g. job reference letter or programme certificate from employer/ host organization with company letter head);
  • Each awardee is required to provide the contact information of your employer/ host organization and he/she will be invited to complete a post-internship evaluation;
  • Each awardee must also submit the following documents to SAO by 30 Sep 2025:
    • a reflective journal (no less than 500 words in English) to highlight your learning experience;
    • at least 5 high resolution photos (no less than 500KB file size each) and a five-minutes video relevant to your internship experience *ensure that your portrait is visible in both photos and video; and
    • complete the student post-internship evaluation (normally sent by University email in early-Sep 2025).
  • If you have completed the above tasks and the documents have been verified by SAO, the subsidy will normally be given to you by end-Dec 2025. Please note that you will be invited to join an award presentation ceremony scheduled in 2025 Autumn Term, and your internship stories and submitted documents may be published electronically or otherwise.
  • Students can only be awarded the GIS once throughout their studies at the University;

  • The duration of physical and virtual global internship should not be less than 4 weeks normally;

  • Applicants should note the application period and be responsible for applying for the recognized programme by themselves. Before applying, applicants should also check whether they meet the programme requirements and visa application eligibility specified by the programme hosts and countries/regions.

  • Priority will be given to students who have placed in the work opportunities relevant to their study programmes and/or career goals;

  • Awardees are required to attend the required pre-internship training and briefing sessions to enhance their career readiness and understand more the latest traveling arrangements;

  • Self-solicited work opportunities outside the above “ SAO Recognized Global Internship Programme List” will not be accepted in general;

  • The internships should not be stipulated by study programme requirement (e.g. credit-bearing/ curriculum-based internship, practicum, study placement);

  • Once the application has been approved by the Scheme authority, no change of internship programme will be allowed unless special approval has been sought;

  • Awardees of this Scheme may also apply for other subsidies from funding sources outside the University in the same year, e.g. Reaching Out Award offered by Hong Kong Government [LINK]; and

  • The Scheme authority has full discretion in determining the subsidy level of each application and rejecting applications. Students should not presume that your application must be successful before receiving the official approval from the Scheme authority.
