Motto: Work hard and you will get what you deserve.

Despite some rough patches, Miranda Serene Angelie Flores can look back on her time at HKMU with a real sense of pride and achievement. Concerns caused by financial issues meant she had to consider dropping out on more than one occasion. But every time, she found the resolve and resources to soldier on with her studies and move closer to the goal of becoming a certified public accountant. That resilience and perseverance stems from a firm belief that knowledge can transform lives. And her dedication, diligence and good performance have been duly recognised with the Ethnic Minority Student Award (EMSA).

The award also brought an invitation to join the HKMU A-Team Student Development programme designed for top business students. “The comprehensive programme grooms participants to become future business leaders,” she says. “It showed us how to sharpen our competitive edge and encouraged us to participate in workshops to enhance specific skills. We attended talks by prominent business leaders and entered inter-university contests.”

In other respects, Miranda is especially grateful for her professors' guidance and assistance when applying for internships. “They provided sound advice and practical tips about interview techniques and drilled me for the aptitude tests. They were very supportive.” This led to a coveted internship with the finance department of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority. “It was valuable experience. I learned about auditing and got some basic knowledge of accounting in practice.”

Looking ahead, the EMSA will also provide muchneeded financial assistance when she enrols in the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants' Qualification Programme
