Service-Learning

Student Affairs Office (SAO) launched Service-Learning programmes since 2019, aiming to provide students with service-learning experience that integrate their knowledge with social responsibility to contribute to the community.
In the past four years, SAO has collaborated with different social partners to co-organize more than 30 different types of service-learning projects and volunteer activities involving over 1000 student participants. The topics cover arts, history, life education, environmental protection, mental health, education, elderly, children services and disability inclusion services, etc. Last summer, we also organized a 4-8 weeks “Summer Placement Programme at NGO 2023” for 33 students to accumulate relevant social service work experience with 11 NGOs.
In year 2021, we have established the “HKMU Service Alliance” and successfully recruited more than 800 students who are interested in participating in service-learning and volunteer activities until now. More volunteer opportunities will be regularly provided to the members and nurture their concern for the community and under-privileged groups.
HKMU is awarded with “Caring School 2023” in Hong Kong Volunteer Award by Home and Youth Affairs Bureau and Agency for Volunteer Service in recognition of our contribution to the community in 2023. In 2023, the total number of service hours from SAO's service-learning was 7207, we encourage more students to actively participate in volunteer activities, provide cares to the under-privileged groups and make more contributions to the community.
