Portraits of the Elderly: Journey of Life Exhibition

Elderly's Memory Book, Life Stories & Portraits

[Purpose]

During various service days, the elderly shared their life stories with students, who recorded the stories and created various memory books for them. In this exhibition, we showcased the stories of different elderly individuals, along with the memory books and photos taken by our students. The exhibition aims to offer a deeper insight into their life journeys, allowing visitors to connect with their experiences on a more personal level.

Student Affairs Office organized the Life Education Ambassador Programme 2022/2023 to promote life education to HKMU students and the community. Student volunteers who participated in this programme have been designated as “Life Education Ambassadors”, they were equipped with knowledge and practical skills to serve the elderly through elderly visiting and photography services.

In 2022/2023, Life Education Ambassadors dedicated their time in building connections and developing an understanding of the elderly during their visits. They conducted interviews to gain insights about the elderly's life experience, with the ultimate goal of creating a cherished life memory book to honor and preserve their life stories.

The Elderly's Memory Book displayed at the exhibition presented personal narratives, memories, and reflections shared by the elderly. It offers a deeper insight into their life journeys, allowing visitors to connect with their experiences on a more personal level.

The photography artworks featured in this exhibition offer a unique perspective on the lives and experiences of older individuals in Hong Kong. All the photography artworks were taken by student leaders who participated in the Life Ambassador Programme 2022/2023, a service-learning programme that provided a platform for students to develop empathy, understanding, and appreciation for the experiences of the elderly while showcasing their talents and commitment to social responsibility (click here for more details).
