[Programme Background]

In collaboration with Fu Hong Society, HKMU Best Buddies Programme was launched by the Student Affairs Office in February 2023. This programme aims to encourage students to develop one-to-one friendships with people with intellectual disabilities, and to better understand their daily lives and the challenges they faced. The programme is now recruiting HKMU buddies for year 2024/2025. This year HKMU students can utilize your strengths and talents to encourage buddies with intellectual disabilities to explore their interests and potentials, and to find joy in daily life. Full-time undergraduate students with a passion for serving people with intellectual disabilities are welcome to join, sign up now to establish unforgettable and sincere friendships with the buddies from Ngai Shun Home*! 

*Ngai Shun Home provides residential services for persons with moderate grade intellectual disabilities

[Programme Objectives]

  • Connect HKMU students with people with intellectual disabilities to show support and build long-lasting friendship
  • Promote social inclusion among HKMU and to better understand the needs of people with Intellectual Disabilities
  • Train HKMU students to support people with intellectual disabilities to discover their potential, unleash their talents and guide them towards living fulfilling lives with dignity.

  • Develop true friendships with people with intellectual disabilities
  • Gain a deeper understanding of the difficulties faced by people with intellectual disabilities, as well as skills for communicating with them through training workshop.
  • Meet more like-minded HKMU students, expand your social circle and enrich your university life.
  • Gain a further understanding of social needs and enhance personal, social, and civic responsibilities.
  • Receive a certificate from SAO for full attendance, which will give priority to participate in other service-learning overseas exchange programmes and training activities.

[Who Can Join?]

All full-time undergraduate students who are passionate to serve people with intellectual disabilities are welcome to join. Cantonese proficiency is required for this programme. To complete the programme, participants are required to attend all training sessions and services.
