Short Video Competition: “My MU Diary”

To celebrate the 35th anniversary of Hong Kong Metropolitan University, the School of Open Learning has organized “My MU Diary” Short Video Competition for students to showcase diverse campus life and rich experiences of their academic journeys, dream pursuits, and personal growth through lenses.

Event Details

Target Participants: Distance-learning and part-time students

Theme: To showcase the diverse campus life, experiences and stories in MU

Submission Period: 1st August to 30th September 2024

Results Announcement: Mid-October 2024

Submission Requirements

Duration: 3 to 5 minutes

Resolution: All submitted entries must be resized to 1080p resolution before uploading

Aspect Ratio: Horizontal, 16:9

Language: English, Cantonese, or Mandarin

File Naming Format: Title of the work

If the entry includes cast, crew and materials from other sources (including images, music, and video clips from the internet or other means), all such materials must be properly credited at the end of the short video to acknowledge original authors and their copyrights. Participants are responsible for ensuring the music used in their entries is free from any licensing or copyright issues.

Awards and Prizes

Champion: Certificate and $1,500

1st Runner-up: Certificate and $1,000

2nd Runner-up: Certificate and $800

Judging Criteria

Results will be decided by an independent panel, and the panel’s decision will be final.

Application and Submission Procedures

Interested students can submit the application form and upload the link during the period from 1 Aug to 30 Sep, 2024(11:59 pm):

Participants are required to upload their contest entries to one or two file-sharing platforms such as Google Drive, Dropbox, YouTube, etc. Please ensure that anyone with the link can view and download the content, but it does not need to be publicly accessible.

Each participant can only submit the registration form once. For repeated submissions, only the last submitted entry will be considered, and the rest will not be considered without further notice.

Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy

  1. Entries must be the participants' original works and have not been published previously or submitted to other competitions, exhibitions or related events.
  2. Entries containing any materials that are potentially obscene, indecent, violent, provocative, slanderous, controversial or otherwise inappropriate or any materials that may infringe the intellectual property or proprietary rights of any third party will be disqualified.
  3. Participants are solely responsible for ensuring that their entries do not infringe any intellectual property or proprietary rights of any third party. If the video entries contain materials where the intellectual property belongs to a third party or request permission during video recording, the participants should obtain the authorisation from the intellectual property right holder or corresponding venue owner. The participants are required to provide their approval documents.
  4. Participants shall ensure that all individuals who appear in the video entry should have given their informed consent and acknowledged that their images and audio may be edited, modified, used, distributed and broadcasted for the purpose of the competition.
  5. Participants agree and undertake to accept and bear full legal and related responsibilities resulting from any possible breach of intellectual property rights in their entries and must indemnify the Organiser against any claims or liabilities resulting from such a breach.
  6. Participants must ensure that the submitted information is true and accurate, and must not impersonate any third party.
  7. The Participants acknowledge and agree that the Organiser has the right to use any video entries submitted by the participants for publicity purposes at no cost, and has the authority to revise, translate, edit, use, adapt, copy or distribute wholly or partly the content of the video entries submitted by the participants, including on the internet or electronic marketing materials, without obtaining their prior consent.
  8. By submitting an entry, the participant(s) are deemed to have accepted these terms and conditions as the rules of the competition. The Organiser reserves the right to disqualify any participant who has violated the rules of the competition.
  9. The Organiser reserves the right to amend the rules of the competition without prior notification.
  10. The Organiser reserves the right to verify the winners and ask for proof of identity. Failure to provide the relevant identification documents may lead to the withdrawal of the prize entitlement.
  11. The Organiser may, at its discretion, cancel, modify, or suspend the competition. Participants will not be entitled to any compensation as a consequence of such cancellation, modification, or suspension.
  12. While there are three award categories, they will be awarded only if the submissions meet the standards and expectations set for each category. If no entry reaches the required level of excellence, there may not be a designated awardee for a specific award category.
  13. The Organiser has the right to make final decisions in all matters relating to this competition, including the terms and conditions, prizes and other arrangements. In case of any discrepancy between the Chinese and English versions of the competition details, rules, terms, and conditions, the English version will prevail.
  14. All personal information supplied by the participants for the competition is voluntary. However, in the event that a participant does not provide such personal information, he or she will not be eligible for any awards or prizes. The personal information of participants will be used only for communication regarding submission, selection, and administrative matters. Names of participants of the winning entries will also be published on the Organiser's website made available for public access.
  15. In accordance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, participants have the right to access and correct the personal data submitted.
