First Anniversary of School of Open Learning

The School of Open Learning was established when HKMU was re-titled in September 2021, but COVID-19 prevented us from organizing a physical ceremony for celebration. As the epidemic had stabilized and slightly subsided SOL finally organised the First Anniversary Ceremony on 26 August 2022 at Bank of China Lecture Theatre, Main Campus. This grand event was a warm gathering of the University community involved in our distance-learning programmes. Orientation for Distance-learning and Part-time Students Volunteer Team “V-Power” (6 August 2022)

With the establishment of the student volunteer team, “V-Power”, an orientation day was organized on 6 August to unite team members and strengthen their sense of belonging towards the team. Through various activities during the event, team members got to know one another, enhanced their self-awareness and confidence, and were well prepared for volunteer services in the community.

Mindfulness and Stress Reduction Workshop (29 April 2022)

The School of Open Learning organized a workshop on mindfulness and stress reduction on 29 April 2022. The workshop was delivered by Ms Lo Sau Kuen, Senior Lecturer, School of Nursing and Health Studies. It aimed to help distance-learning and part-time students counteract stress and anxiety in their hectic lives as well as to develop a stronger sense of wellbeing and self-care through basic mindfulness exercises.

Time Management Workshop (22 Apr 2022)

To help distance learning and part-time students improve their personal effectiveness in both their study, work and personal lives, a workshop on time management skills was delivered on 22 April 2022, which introduced systematic time management techniques as well as highlighting the methods and tools available for effective scheduling and prioritization.

Essay Writing Workshop (14 & 21 Apr 2022)

Two sessions of workshops on essay writing skills were delivered by Dr. Li Kam Cheong, Dean of the School of Open Learning on 14 April and 21 April 2022 in Cantonese and English respectively with the aims of strengthening students' essay writing skills and improving their performance in assignments. The workshops covered contents such as types and features of academic writing, characteristics of a good essay, key components of an essay, steps of writing, strategies for good academic writing, and referencing.
