在香港，就算少時對電腦科技等有濃厚興趣，不少年青人卻不敵罐頭式教育制度，未能遂其所願。真不知埋沒了多少科技人才。
所以，你可以說蘇朗熙(Gary)是幸運的，在都大電腦系畢業，跟著在護理健康學部研究開發虛擬實境(virtual reality)教學系統，享受自己喜歡的工作。
其實他升學的路途卻不順利，中學會考成績稍遜，需要走過不同的證書及文憑課程，副學士畢業時，更要考慮是否要銜接上大學學位課程。在比較過幾間大學後，發現都大電腦系在內容及業界認可方面都適合，便決意申請，也在面試後獲得取錄，在三年級插班，算是不錯的一段學習路段。
由副學位升上大學，往往要面對學術及文化的不同而引起的挑戰。Gary也不例外，他也擔心不能適應。

怎料他遇到的同學，都學習認真，更十分積極參加學術比賽，及參與學會活動。他與其中兩位新相識的同學，一起做關於虛擬實境應用的畢業項目，他們十分合拍，並在導師Professor Ng的鼓勵下，以Man-ager「老年人助理」參加校際比賽，結果在2016年度大專學生教育科技比賽中勝出，獲得一萬元的獎金。
「老年人助理」特別讓居住老人院的老人家置身不同場景，如有虛擬教練的健身操場地，旅遊景點，甚至海外子女家中，改善老人家的身心健康。
Gary覺得，在做畢業項目時，導師給了很多具前瞻性建議，及教導撰寫報告及演講技巧，讓自己的能力提升，最終能夠獲獎。
現在，他設計專為護士學生學習用的教學軟件，特別是使用虛擬實境，讓學生明白恐懼症病人的感受，改善他們的護理技巧。他覺得可以學而致用，並回饋母校，令他十分開心。
蘇朗熙是幸運的，而幸運應該是來自他的努力及對電腦科技的熱愛。

Jonathan handles all external affairs include business development, patents write up and public relations. He is frequently interviewed by media and is considered a pioneer in 3D printing products.
After graduating from OUHK, Krutz obtained an M.Sc. in Engineering Management from CityU. He is now completing his second master degree, M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering, at CUHK. Krutz has a wide range of working experience. He has been with Siemens, VTech, and PCCW.
Hugo Leung Wai-yin, who graduated from his four-year programme in 2015, won the Best Paper Award for his ‘intelligent pill-dispenser’ design at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering’s International Conference on Consumer Electronics – China 2015.
The pill-dispenser alerts patients via sound and LED flashes to pre-set dosage and time intervals. Unlike units currently on the market, Hugo’s design connects to any mobile phone globally. In explaining how it works, he said: ‘There are three layers in the portable pillbox. The lowest level is a controller with various devices which can be connected to mobile phones in remote locations. Patients are alerted by a sound alarm and flashes. Should they fail to follow their prescribed regime, data can be sent via SMS to relatives and friends for follow up.’ The pill-dispenser has four medicine slots, plus a back-up with a LED alert, topped by a 500ml water bottle. It took Hugo three months of research and coding to complete his design, but he feels it was worth all his time and effort.
Hugo’s public examination results were disappointing and he was at a loss about his future before enrolling at the OUHK, which he now realizes was a major turning point in his life. He is grateful for the OUHK’s learning environment, its industry links and the positive guidance and encouragement from his teachers. The University is now exploring the commercial potential of his design with a pharmaceutical company. He hopes that this will benefit the elderly and chronically ill, as well as the society at large.
Soon after completing his studies, Hugo joined an automation technology company as an assistant engineer. He is responsible for the design and development of automation devices. The target is to minimize human labor and increase the quality of products. He is developing products which are used in various sections, including healthcare, manufacturing and consumer electronics.
