Details:
The collaborative project, “Digital Twin (Mixed Reality) Adoption for Improving Training and Inspection Processes in New Buildings”, developed by a team of students and a graduate from the School of Science and Technology (S&T), was again recognised in various competitions. It won a Bronze Award in the Undergraduate Category at the Energy-Saving and Low-Carbon Innovation for Tomorrow's Competition organised by CLP and the IET Hong Kong. And in the IFMA Asia Pacific Awards of Excellence 2024 organised by the IFMA Hong Kong Chapter, it received a Certificate of Merit in two categories, the Asia Pacific Award of Excellence in Collaborative Partnership and the Asia Pacific Award of Excellence in Innovation and Technology Application in FM.

Supervised by Assistant Professor Ir Dr Jimmy LI Chi-ho and in collaboration with Hong Yip Service Company Ltd., the team applies a Digital Twin model using Mixed Reality (MR) technology to simulate the process of new building inspection. It includes an MR platform designed to train property management practitioners in new building inspection and provide them with guidance on improving inspection efficiency. Hong Yip has already applied the MR platform in the training of practitioners and the inspection processes of their new residential buildings. The technology has been fine-tuned to meet the standards of both Hong Kong and mainland China.

Prior to that, the project had received several other awards, including a Platinum Award at the IFMA Inter-Institutional Competition on Best Facility Management Project Presentation 2024, a Merit Prize in the Entrepreneurship Proposal category at the 10th Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, a Special Prize at the 7th China Vocational Education Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, and the Best Innovative Award and second runner-up in the Undergraduate Section at the IET Hong Kong — Young Professionals Exhibition & Competition 2024.
