都大首办香港检验医学研讨会 为35周年校庆掀序幕

由香港都会大学(都大)与香港医务化验学会合办的首届「香港检验医学研讨会」昨日(1月6日)圆满举行。作为都大35周年校庆首个大型学术交流活动,研讨会反应热烈,吸引专家、学者、科研人员、业界和政府代表等约250人参与。透过一系列演讲和讨论,助与会者汲取相关专业知识,了解检验医学领域的最新发展,并相互交流经验及探讨合作的机会。

香港特别行政区教育局局长蔡若莲博士应邀莅临主礼,并与都大校长林群声教授、科技学院院长王富利教授等,一同主持都大医疗科学实验室开幕仪式,标志着这所占地7,000平方呎、配备先进专业仪器的实验室正式启用。

都大于2021年获教育局「自资专上教育提升及启动补助金计划」拨款逾4,000万港元,作为开办「医疗化验科学荣誉理学士」课程的起动资助,包括筹建该医疗科学实验室,备有五个实验室专区,涵盖「临床血液及输血科学」、「临床化学及免疫学」、「医学微生物学」、「病理组织学」和「分子诊断学」的化验工作,以支援相关范畴的教学及研究。

蔡若莲局长在致辞中表示,医学化验专才作为公共卫生的重要守护者,就应对因人口老化而增加的医疗保健服务需求有着重要角色。都大作为一所提供护理及相关专业医疗培训的主要院校,于本学年首度推出医疗化验科学荣誉理学士课程,可谓恰逢其时。她说:「教育局将继续与都大和其他自资院校紧密合作,进一步提升自资专上教育的质素和策略定位,为年轻人提供多元出路,应对社会人力需求,巩固香港作为国际教育枢纽的地位。」

林群声校长表示,去年开办的医疗化验科学荣誉理学士课程反应非常热烈,报读情况远超预期,反映行业求才若渴。他感谢特区政府及教育局大力支持,让都大成功开办课程及设立医疗科学实验室。他说:「大学会将智能科技融入实验室环境,提升教研质素,此概念极具创新性,是香港以至粤港澳大湾区内首创。同时,这计划与大学发展智能校园的愿景不谋而合。」

全日研讨会共进行四场主题演讲,讲者包括国际临床化学和检验医学联合会(IFCC)新兴技术委员会主席Sergio Bernardini教授、香港浸会大学(浸大)暂任首席创新总监刘乐庭教授、四川沃文特生物工程股份有限公司市场经理邓志武,以及香港大学(港大)微生物学系名誉副教授任永昌博士。他们就检验医学领域的新技术和发展趋势等,分享精辟见解和经验,令与会者获益良多。

新开幕的医疗科学实验室亦开放予与会者参观,展示多部医院广泛采用的先进化验仪器。实验室配合医疗化验科学课程,以先进科技及跨学科协作,及透过现场教学,为学生提供大量应用及实践的机会,加强职前培训,培育更多医疗化验专才。大学亦计划将实验室全面智能化,配备自动化实验室监察系统、机械人系统、智能眼镜等先进器材,打造成全港首个智能医疗化验教学实验室。

Hugo Leung Wai-yin, who graduated from his four-year programme in 2015, won the Best Paper Award for his ‘intelligent pill-dispenser’ design at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering’s International Conference on Consumer Electronics – China 2015.

The pill-dispenser alerts patients via sound and LED flashes to pre-set dosage and time intervals. Unlike units currently on the market, Hugo’s design connects to any mobile phone globally. In explaining how it works, he said: ‘There are three layers in the portable pillbox. The lowest level is a controller with various devices which can be connected to mobile phones in remote locations. Patients are alerted by a sound alarm and flashes. Should they fail to follow their prescribed regime, data can be sent via SMS to relatives and friends for follow up.’ The pill-dispenser has four medicine slots, plus a back-up with a LED alert, topped by a 500ml water bottle. It took Hugo three months of research and coding to complete his design, but he feels it was worth all his time and effort.

Hugo’s public examination results were disappointing and he was at a loss about his future before enrolling at the OUHK, which he now realizes was a major turning point in his life. He is grateful for the OUHK’s learning environment, its industry links and the positive guidance and encouragement from his teachers. The University is now exploring the commercial potential of his design with a pharmaceutical company. He hopes that this will benefit the elderly and chronically ill, as well as the society at large.

Soon after completing his studies, Hugo joined an automation technology company as an assistant engineer. He is responsible for the design and development of automation devices. The target is to minimize human labor and increase the quality of products. He is developing products which are used in various sections, including healthcare, manufacturing and consumer electronics.
