都大開辦全港首個寶石及珠寶學應用學位課程

香港都會大學（都大）建築與品質管理系日前舉辦「2024 國際寶石學研討會暨寶石及珠寶學應用學位課程啟動禮」，並推出全港首個寶石及珠寶學應用學位課程，致力為本港培育更多寶石及珠寶檢測認證、研究和產業發展的專業人才。本港作為全球主要的寶石貿易中心，近年隨著新興市場需求不斷增加，寶石行業迎來復甦契機。有見及此，在亞洲寶石學院及鑑定所和業界的支持下，都大推出全港首個以遙距模式授課的寶石及珠寶學應用學位課程，幫助學生掌握專業學科的理論和實踐方面的關鍵知識，回應業界對寶石業人才的專業培訓需求。科技學院建築與品質管理系主任李至冲博士致歡迎辭時，感謝亞洲寶石學院及鑑定所的專業團隊、珠寶業界精英、以及校外課程評審員對新課程的全力支持，並就課程設計和教學細節等給予寶貴意見。他說：「這個應用學位課程不僅把寶石及珠寶行業專業人才的培訓變得系統化，也進一步鞏固本港作為寶石及珠寶教育、檢測認證、研究和產業發展的卓越地位。都大將繼續積極與不同行業建立緊密聯繫，讓學生透過與業界溝通及實習獲得寶貴的經驗，了解更多業界最新技術及專業知識。」更多寶石及珠寶學應用理學士課程資訊，請按以下連結參閱 課程網頁。 Back to Department Site

土木工程課程學生在 ICE HKA G&S 韓國代表團中獲獎

於2023年10月22日至27日，土木工程課程學生 林家俊Ricky 和 劉紀瑤Clarice 有幸參加了「英國土木工程師學會香港分會（ICE HKA）青年部（G&S）2023年韓國代表團」，很榮幸被選為學生獎學金得主，每人獲得3,000港元的資助以支付整個計劃的費用。 Ricky的經歷：在代表團期間，我們訪問了韓國首爾的工程公司、建築工地和大學。我們了解到他們在建築環境中應用的創新技術以及如何滿足未來的需求。看到土木工程師如何通過他們的項目應對社會變革和挑戰，這真是令人着迷。這次經歷擴大了我的視野，讓我探索了最新的海外土木工程發展。代表團的主題「突破界限：點燃創新」，符合聯合國可持續發展目標，強調智慧同創新的工程解決方案的重要性。Clarice的經歷：在代表團期間，我從第一手觀察了真實的土木工程項目，並與韓國的工程學生進行了豐富的跨文化交流。這種接觸對於拓展我的視野和加深我對全球建設行業的理解至關重要。此外，這也是一個結交業內新朋友的絕佳平台。這次經歷凸顯了作為學生時期可得到的獨特機會，這些機會不僅充實而且在學生時期相對更為經濟。共同見解：我們都強烈鼓勵其他土木工程學生參加未來的ICE HKA代表團。這些計劃提供了絕佳的機會，去探索香港與海外城市之間的異同，考慮未來的工程機遇，並促進全球年輕土木工程精英之間的交流。參與還提供了親身體驗外國文化和社會的機會。 返回 建築與品質管理系

Award-winning inventor turns ideas in medical products

Hugo Leung Wai-yin, who graduated from his four-year programme in 2015, won the Best Paper Award for his ‘intelligent pill-dispenser’ design at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering’s International Conference on Consumer Electronics – China 2015.

The pill-dispenser alerts patients via sound and LED flashes to pre-set dosage and time intervals. Unlike units currently on the market, Hugo’s design connects to any mobile phone globally. In explaining how it works, he said: ‘There are three layers in the portable pillbox. The lowest level is a controller with various devices which can be connected to mobile phones in remote locations. Patients are alerted by a sound alarm and flashes. Should they fail to follow their prescribed regime, data can be sent via SMS to relatives and friends for follow up.’ The pill-dispenser has four medicine slots, plus a back-up with a LED alert, topped by a 500ml water bottle. It took Hugo three months of research and coding to complete his design, but he feels it was worth all his time and effort.

Hugo’s public examination results were disappointing and he was at a loss about his future before enrolling at the OUHK, which he now realizes was a major turning point in his life. He is grateful for the OUHK’s learning environment, its industry links and the positive guidance and encouragement from his teachers. The University is now exploring the commercial potential of his design with a pharmaceutical company. He hopes that this will benefit the elderly and chronically ill, as well as the society at large.

Soon after completing his studies, Hugo joined an automation technology company as an assistant engineer. He is responsible for the design and development of automation devices. The target is to minimize human labor and increase the quality of products. He is developing products which are used in various sections, including healthcare, manufacturing and consumer electronics.
