The programme is based on the philosophy of death, which is a certainty in life. The end-of-life period can be a very uncertain time, with a range of decisions having to be made on matters such as health, well-being, estate disposal, a good death, and so on. Towards this end, this programme will train personnel to provide Extensive End-of-Life Care (EELC) in a person-centred manner.
EELC adopts the unique approach of deinstitutionalizing and normalizing the dying process. With a passion for life and compassion for sufferings as the two key attributes of the programme, healthcare professionals will be trained to instil hope to older people and their carers in the process – the hope for the best in their final life journey.

Collaboration with Society for the Promotion of Hospice Care (SPHC)
The SPHC is the first palliative and hospice care training provider in Hong Kong, and regularly offers classes on end-of-life care, bereavement support, and advance care planning to both local and overseas participants. It runs institutional, home, and respite services in end-of-life care, with a key objective of encouraging active carers participation to act as a buffer against complicated grief and to improve the quality of death.
Clinical Practicum
This programme is designed to prepare students to take on active roles and develop their competence in the area of Extensive End-of-Life care (EELC). The Clinical Practicum course is an important practical unit in the programme. It will give students hands-on opportunities in real-life settings to apply theories and skills learnt from various courses. SPHC provides a platform of venues for students to experience and explore issues related to end-of-life care.
