Important Notes

Students should only apply to retake course(s) with course result 'Fail'.

For students under 5-credit system who failed the University's Core Value Modules (UNI courses), the University will enrol these courses in the next offering term for you. Students do not need to apply retake for these courses.

For students under 3-credit-unit system who failed the University's Core Courses (UNI courses), no pre-assignment will be proceeded and students are required to submit retake application for these courses specifically.

Application will be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to factors including availability of course and/or group places, your class schedule, the fulfilment of prerequisite requirements and endorsement of the School concerned. As class schedule is yet to be confirmed, you would be assigned to any class section available for the course. You will be allowed to swap the class section according to their own schedules during the course add/drop period.

Application will be processed on rolling basis. The result will be finalised before the commencement of the term. You should confirm if your retake application is successful or not by checking 'Academic Record' and 'Class Schedule' on MyHKMU: course(s) which are successfully enrolled will be shown in the record.  Course(s) that you applied for retake but not appear in these two pages is deemed as unsuccessful in that particular term.

You may consider taking the equivalent distance-learning course to replace the failed undergraduate or sub-degree course(s). For details on the equivalent courses, please refer to the list of “Courses not to be taken again”. Upon the application for adding distance learning course(s) for retake is approved, the University will notify you of the registration procedure and tuition fee payment via email. If you fail to complete the registration procedure within the stipulated period, your application will be deemed to be cancelled.

For the total credit loading of the full-time undergraduate programme and distance learning course, please refer to the General Requirement for 5-credit system or 3-credit system as appropriate.

If you have incurred any outstanding tuition fees balances from the retake course(s) successfully enrolled, you will be informed of the payment details (special arrangements will be made for non-local students requiring student visa renewal/extension before the commencement of the term). You are required to settle the balances before the stipulated deadline. Otherwise, you will be de-registered from the University. Details of tuition fees arrangements are provided in the Tuition Fees webpage.

If you have missed the retake application period, you may submit an application during the add/drop period of the term. However, in order to avoid unnecessary delay/inconvenience for you to take the course(s), you are advised to submit your application during the retake application period.
