The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) announced today (2 March) the appointment of Prof. Lui Yu-Hon as Vice President (Resources & Development) with effect from 9 March 2020.

Prof. Lui is a seasoned academic administrator and has rich university administration, resources management and project development experience. During his terms of service as the President of the Tung Wah College, Prof. Lui successfully led the College to become a prestigious higher education institution with niche in quality healthcare education and make significant achievements in a wide range of areas such as programme development, teaching and learning, financial, physical and human resources management, corporate governance and image building.

Prof. Lui obtained his B.B.A. from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and subsequently M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Accounting and Finance from the Lancaster University, UK. He also holds professional qualifications in accounting, banking, company secretary and securities of local and overseas professional bodies such as Chartered Governance Professional (CGP), Member of Institute of Public Accountants, Australia (MIPA), Foundation Member of The Institute of Certified Management Accountants, Australia (CMA), Fellow of The Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute (HKSI), Associate of The Chartered Institute of Bankers, United Kingdom (ACIB), The Hong Kong Institute of Bankers (AHKIB), The Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries (ACS) as well as The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, United Kingdom (ACIS).

Prof. Lui started his career in the banking industry before devoting himself to the higher education sector in 1986. He had taken up several academic positions in the City University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Baptist University between 1986 and 1998 before he joined the OUHK as the Director of Centre for Continuing and Community Education (CCCE) in February 1998. During his terms of service, he successfully transformed the CCCE from a small general education distance learning centre to a quality continuing and professional education provider, Li Ka Shing Institute of Professional and Continuing Education (LiPACE), specializing in promoting lifelong learning and professional education. In December 2014, he decided to take up another challenge by joining the Tung Wah College as the President.

As an academic, Prof. Lui published extensively in the areas of accounting, banking, financial markets and institutions, investment and education. Besides, Prof. Lui took up a number of community service such as Member of the Human Resources Planning Commission and Women’s Commission, and Chairman of the Cantonese Opera Development Fund Advisory Committee.

The management team of the OUHK welcomes Prof. Lui Yu-Hon to rejoin the University, and is confident that the University will benefit from his rich knowledge, ample experience and superb leadership.
