Master of Arts in Chinese Literature graduate Zhang Yuan won the first prize in the 25th National New Concept Essay Writing Contest with his outstanding literary work This Year (這一年). The New Concept Essay Writing Contest was organised by 14 famous mainland universities, including Peking University, Tsinghua University and Fudan University, as well as Mengya (萌芽) magazine. Aiming at encouraging young people to submit creative literary works, this year's contest was co-organised by the Shanghai Morning Post Education and Development Centre (新聞晨報教育發展中心).

Zhang shows remarkable talent in multiple genres of writing. His fiction The Night Before (前夜) was published in the “Post-1990s writers' fiction selection” of the Hong Kong Literature (February 2023 issue).
