The School of Open Learning of Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) organised a study tour to Nansha in late October, Guangzhou, with the participation of more than 40 full-time and distance-learning students from different Schools. The aim of the activity was to help the students broaden their horizons and learn about the latest developments in the Greater Bay Area.

The students first visited the Guangzhou Automobile Science and Technology Museum and the Nansha Planning Exhibition Hall, where they gained useful information about Nansha's scientific innovation development process and future vision. At the Museum, the students learned about the latest science and technology products and applications, and personally experienced the charm and power of Nansha's science and technology development. In Nansha Planning Exhibition Hall, the students learned about Nansha's historical changes, current characteristics and future planning through multimedia, model and sand table, providing them with a more comprehensive understanding of Nansha's development.

At the Nansha Hong Kong and Macao Youth Innovation Base in Chuangxiang Bay, the students interacted with Hong Kong and Macao youth representatives who had started businesses and worked in Nansha, who shared their practical experience and feelings. The representatives discussed their work and life in Nansha, as well as career-development prospects, employment opportunities and policy support that helps attract more Hong Kong and Macao young people to Nansha for employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Finally, the delegation visited the Nansha Yacht Club and Sailing House at the mouth of the Pearl River, where they enjoyed the beautiful scenery of Nansha, and under the guidance of professional coaches, learned how to sail and experienced the fun of sailing. On their way back to Hong Kong, the students said that they had gained a lot from this trip, which had broadened their horizons and deepened their understanding of the Greater Bay Area, and enjoyed the fun-filled experience. They said they hoped that the School would organise more such activities in the future. In response, Dr LI Kam Cheong, Dean of HKMU School of Open Learning, said that the School is working with relevant institutions to help students better understand and take advantage of the development opportunities in the Greater Bay Area.
