The Cello Plays — The Wailing of Joker (大提琴奏響:《小丑》的悲鳴)

Details:
Graduate of the creative writing and film arts programme Mak Wan-ching's article on the movie Joker was selected and published in the online column “The Movie Newbie (電影新人類)” of the Hong Kong Film Critics Society. His article “The Cello Plays — The Wailing of Joker (大提琴奏響:《小丑》的悲鳴)” explores how the film uses a cello-driven soundtrack to illustrate the psychological changes of the protagonist Arthur Fleck, leading the audience to empathise with his tragic experience of being oppressed by society, which eventually drives him to become a mad joker.

Founded in 1995, the Hong Kong Film Critics Society (HKFCS) is the first association of film critics and professionals in Hong Kong. It is also a member of the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI). Its objectives are to gather like-minded film critics, maintain the independence of film criticism, promote Hong Kong films through providing cultural and artistic criticisms, and recognise the accomplishments of Hong Kong films.
