Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) held a flag-raising ceremony for National Day on campus this morning (1 October) to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Council Chairman Ir Dr Conrad Wong Tin-cheung, together with about 200 members of the HKMU community, including Council members, management, staff and students, attended the ceremony to commemorate this important day.

Sharing the joy and excitement with students, Ir Dr Wong hoped that the flag-raising ceremony would deepen the affection of the younger generation for the country. “Since the founding of the People's Republic of China 75 years ago, our country has made impressive achievements on all fronts. HKMU is committed to providing students with opportunities for exchanges in the Mainland and collaborating with universities and other institutions in different regions to help students integrate into the overall national development and gain a deeper understanding of Hong Kong's distinctive advantage of enjoying strong support from the motherland and being closely connected to the rest of the world. I sincerely hope that our students will take full advantage of the opportunities, while applying their strengths to contributing to the development of Hong Kong and the country,” said Ir Dr Wong.

To cultivate students' national consciousness and promote national education, the University raises the national flag on campus every day and holds flag-raising ceremonies every Monday morning and on other momentous occasions, such as New Year's Day, HKSAR Establishment Day and National Day. All students and staff are encouraged to participate.
