Hong Kong's only female ice-climbing athlete and HKMU nursing graduate Janet Kung Tsz-shan was named one of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) in the Ten Outstanding Young Persons Selection 2024, in recognition of her achievements in ice climbing and other sports.
Last year, Janet represented Hong Kong in the 2023–2024 UIAA Ice Climbing World Cup, held in five countries, and placed sixth in the world ranking of Speed and 26th in Lead. She is also a two-time holder of the “Queen of the Buns” title, winning in the women's group of the Cheung Chau Bun Scrambling Competition in 2019 and 2024.
At HKMU, Janet served as Vice President of the First Session of the Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Metropolitan University Alumni Association and was involved in organising events aimed at strengthening ties with alumni for the University.
In addition to the TOYP honour, Janet was recently selected as one of the Hong Kong Professional Elite Ladies in another selection organised by the Junior Chamber International City Lady.
The Junior Chamber International Hong Kong has organised the annual Ten Outstanding Young Persons Selection since 1970 to recognise young people who excel in their professional endeavours and have made an outstanding contribution in the community, with the ultimate goal of inspiring more young people to play a greater role in shaping the future of our society.
