Details:
Four computing and interactive entertainment students gathered to join the Disney Imaginations Hong Kong Design Competition 2024. They stood out among 100 teams from Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Shenzhen, and Macau to reach the final round as one of the six finalists, earning a chance to showcase their project to the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Mr Kevin Yeung Yun-hung and Managing Director of the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (HKDL) Mr Michael Moriarty.
This year's challenge was themed around sustainability and inclusion, inviting participants to create an educational experience with a focus on conservation. The team developed an augmented reality game called “Walled Past”, in which visitors venture into the Kowloon Walled City to find missing memory fragments and items related to them, such as a community group photo representing human warmth, or a family film strip representing collective memories. They then bring these items back to a specific room inside the city to set the walled environment free.
The Disney Imaginations Hong Kong Design Competition was first held in 2011, expanding from the Imaginations Design Competition in the United States. It is part of Disney Future Storytellers, the Walt Disney Company's initiative to empower the next generation of storytellers and innovators. This year, HKDL opened the competition to more institutions and cities in the Greater Bay Area and first accepted applications from students across any disciplines.
