Huang Mingyang: Watching the Rain (觀雨記) – 1st runner-up (Poetry)
Liu Jiaxin (graduate): Every Snowflake Will Go Away (Series) (每一片雪花都將遠去 組詩) – 2nd runner-up (Poetry)
Tan Jiongcheng: Towards Damascus (往大馬士革方向) – Merit Award (Poetry); Window Washing (洗窗) – Recognition Award (Novel)
Yin Jinhua: Makeup (化妝) – Recognition Award (Poetry)
Zhao Yun: Persimmon and Grandma (柿柿平安) – Recognition Award (Prose)
Five students and graduate of the Master of Arts in Creative Writing programme won multiple awards at the 12th Intervarsity Creative Writing Competition with their literary talent.
In the poetry category, Huang Mingyang won the 1st runner-up with Watching the Rain (觀雨記), which uses the imagery of rain to depict the changes of a small farmhouse under different winter weather conditions, forming a strong contrast with the fast-paced city life. Liu Jiaxin won the 2nd runner-up with Every Snowflake Will Go Away (Series) (每一片雪花都將遠去 組詩), which revolves around the theme of snowflakes, trying to find traces of his hometown in the long northern winter.
In addition, Tan Jiongcheng won the Merit Award in the poetry category and the Recognition Award in the novel category with Towards Damascus (往大馬士革方向) and Window Washing (洗窗) respectively; Yin Jinhua received the Recognition Award in the poetry category with her work Makeup (化妝); and Zhao Yun won the Recognition Award in the essay category with Persimmon and Grandma (柿柿平安).
The Intervarsity Creative Writing Competition, launched by the Faculty of Arts and the Language Centre of The Hong Kong Baptist University in 2000, aims to arouse young people's interest and nurture their creativity in writing.
