Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) recently acquired a brand-new hotel in Hung Hom for student accommodation. The hotel, to be named MU88, will support the University's development and enrich students' campus life, in response to the continued growth in student population.

Originally named “Urbanwood Hotel”, the property is located at 84-102 Wuhu Street, Hung Hom, close to the Ho Man Tin MTR station and the HKMU campus. It consists of two 16-storey towers with a gross floor area of approximately 66,400 square feet, offering 255 rooms with en-suite bathrooms to accommodate about 480 persons. HKMU will suitably modify and enhance the facilities to ensure that it comfortably accommodates students' daily living and study needs.

The University set up a working group to prepare for the opening of the student accommodation, aiming to commence operation this August, catering primarily for non-local students. In view of the ongoing internationalisation on campus, some rooms may be reserved for exchange students and visiting scholars.

HKMU President Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing said, “The property offers comfortable accommodation with convenient access to public transport, enabling more non-local and exchange students to study at the University and providing local students with more opportunities to interact with them. This will not only enrich the students' campus life, but also enhance the learning atmosphere and promote internationalisation on campus.”

He added that with the steady increase in student enrolment in recent years, HKMU has outgrown its existing campus space. The University has therefore adopted flexible and innovative approaches to explore possibilities for campus expansion and facilities enhancement. In addition to the student accommodation, the Homantin Plaza Learning Centre will be in operation before the start of 2024/25 academic year to provide more teaching and learning space for students and staff.
