HKMU hosts 35th Anniversary Banquet
Striving for excellence and going beyond limits

Addressing the ceremony, HKMU Council Chairman Ir Dr Conrad Wong praised the four Honorary Fellowship recipients for their distinguished accomplishments in their respective fields and great contribution to the University and the wider community.
Presided over by HKMU Pro-chancellor Dr Eddy Fong Ching, Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) held its Honorary University Fellowship Presentation Ceremony today (4 October) to present Honorary University Fellowships to four distinguished individuals: Mr Anthony Chan Tung-shan, a member of the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications; Mr Choi Pat-tai, President of Pak Shing Travel Co. Ltd; Ms Jasmine Lee Shun-yi, Managing Partner of EY Hong Kong and Macao; and Mr Wai Ka-fai, a renowned Hong Kong filmmaker.
Addressing the ceremony, HKMU Council Chairman Ir Dr Conrad Wong praised the four Honorary Fellowship recipients for their distinguished accomplishments in their respective fields and great contribution to the University and the wider community. The Honorary Fellows have made their marks in different fields, are committed to giving back to society, and serve as highly valued role models for the young generations, he said.
This year marks the 35th anniversary of HKMU. In his welcome remarks, Ir Dr Wong outlined the key developments of the University and emphasised that the University will continue to build on its successes to chart its course of development. Earlier this year, HKMU was approved by the Education Bureau to become the first University of Applied Sciences (UAS) in Hong Kong. Ir Dr Wong said, “The description of a UAS matches very closely the kind of university that HKMU already was in many respects. With this new identity, our University is looking to foster even closer ties with industry. We will offer more high-quality applied degree programmes across a wide array of important fields to meet the needs of society.”
Following are brief profiles of the four Honorary University Fellows:
Mr Anthony Chan Tung-shan, MH
Mr Anthony Chan Tung-shan is a highly accomplished administrator, with extensive experience in public administration and project management, the majority of which is in the education field. Mr Chan has held prominent positions in various policy bureaux and offices of the HKSAR Government, including the Civil Service Bureau, the Education Bureau, the Security Bureau, the Housing and Trade departments, and the University Grants Committee. He is currently a member of the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications. (Learn more)
Mr Choi Pat-tai, MH
Mr Choi Pat-tai is the President of Pak Shing Travel Co. Ltd. His remarkable achievements in the tourism industry are complemented by his unwavering commitment to philanthropy and community service. Mr Choi has served as an honorary advisor to the HKMU Li Ka Shing School of Professional and Continuing Education for many years. His steadfast support, in particular to the School's Japanese Language and Cultural Studies Centre, has helped to advance the development of vocational and professional education and training. Ms Jasmine Lee Shun-yi
Ms Jasmine Lee Shun-yi is a Managing Partner of EY Hong Kong and Macao and a committed professional in the field of accounting. She has worked ardently to advance the development of the professional services of the industry and to promote greater integration and cooperation in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area. Championing synergy between corporations and academia, Ms Lee is a valued partner and benefactor of the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration of HKMU. She also takes an active part in HKMU's academic exchange activities. (Learn more)
Mr Wai Ka-fai
Mr Wai Ka-fai is a renowned Hong Kong filmmaker, with a prolific career showcasing exceptional talent. Over the past three decades, Mr Wai has worked as a director, screenwriter or producer on more than 30 movies, garnering film awards both locally and internationally. Notably, he received the 2008 Hong Kong Film Award for Best Screenplay for Mad Detective, and the 2023 Hong Kong Film Award for Best Director and Best Screenplay for Detective vs Sleuths, among others.
