Since 2009, Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) has collaborated with Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) to provide educational programmes to share knowledge with all citizens. The two parties renewed their partnership for a new “Knowledge for All” series, which will be broadcast on TVB Pearl every Sunday morning, allowing people from all walks of life to acquire new knowledge and achieve self-enhancement from a wide range of information in various subjects.

A press conference to launch the new “Knowledge for All” series was held today (8 August) on the HKMU Jockey Club Campus. The ceremony was officiated by HKMU President Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing and TVB General Manager (Business Operations) Mr Siu Sai-wo and attended by HKMU Provost Prof. Reggie Kwan Ching-ping, Vice President (Strategic Initiatives) Prof. Alan Au Kai-ming, and TVB artistes Patrick Lam Po-loy, Toby Chan Ting-yan, Jarvis Chow Yik-wai, Roxanne Ho Pui-ga, Danny Hung Tak-yin, Ricco Ng Wai-ho, Krysella Wong Ching-ling, and the master of ceremonies Miguel Choi Hong-nin.

In his address, Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing said that HKMU has always advocated self-enhancement and lifelong learning. Since its establishment in 1989, the University has shared knowledge with the general public through educational information programmes free on television. “This year marks the 35th anniversary of the University and the approval of HKMU as the first University of Applied Sciences in Hong Kong,” he said. “Without losing sight of our priorities, vision and mission, we will continue to move with the times by providing students with opportunities for diverse learning and career development, promoting Vocational and Professional Education and Training, and nurturing more professionals with applied skills.”

The “Knowledge for All” series covers a wide range of disciplines, including literature, history, arts and culture, business and sustainable development, language, life education, national education, and health and scientific research, enabling viewers to acquire knowledge from various perspectives. Through the public lecture series “Talk of the Metropolis”, the University shares the expertise and experience of guest speakers and elaborates on issues relevant to Hong Kong, thereby inspiring the public to pursue knowledge and providing them with references and insights for further studies and career planning.

Mr Siu Sai-wo said, “In this era of rapid technological change, there has been an evolution in the way we gain knowledge. As the primary medium for the general public to access information and knowledge, the media industry has kept up with the pace of technological development and innovation. In this age of information explosion and the booming of artificial intelligence, the public can acquire knowledge anytime and anywhere with their smart phones. Learning is boundless, and creativity is endless. Evolving with the times, TVB and HKMU are sparing no effort to promote education and provide learning opportunities among different sectors of society. With our collective wisdom and the advantages of integrating resources, we can jointly create better content and extend the continuing education ladder to reach new heights.”

During the ceremony, the officiating guests announced the official launch of the new TV series, signifying that HKMU will continue to provide the public with inspiration and wisdom, nurture outstanding talent and inject new impetus into society. The TVB artistes shared their personal learning experience leading to breakthroughs and introduced new highlights of the “Knowledge for All” series.

The new “Knowledge for All” series will continue to provide a wealth of content, including “Talk of the Metropolis: Creating Living Shorelines through Ecological Engineering”, presented by Prof. Kenneth Leung Mei-yee, “From Postmodern to Artificial Intelligence: Development and Overview of Contemporary Chinese Music”, presented by Dr Hui Tak-cheung, “Cantonese Opera in Australia”, delivered by Ms Elsa Ho, the “National Education Series”, and so on.
