HKMU launches new career readiness programme to enhance students' soft skills in the workplace
Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) welcomes the Chief Executive's announcement in the Policy Address that the HKSAR Government will develop Hong Kong into an international hub for post-secondary education and launch a series of measures aimed at promoting education and talent development. HKMU will do its utmost to complement the Government's policy of nurturing more high-quality talent for Hong Kong.
HKMU fully supports the Government's initiative to establish the universities of applied sciences, in the belief that it will help promote manpower training in the field of applied sciences. The University agrees that the Government's promotion of vocational and professional education in recent years has provided young people with diversified learning and employment opportunities, and nurtured vocational professionals for various industries, thereby enhancing Hong Kong's overall competitiveness.
“HKMU is the only self-financed university in Hong Kong granted self-accrediting status and offers programmes in many different fields, including applied sciences, in response to the needs of society,” said HKMU President Prof. Lam Kwan-sing. “The University is pleased to leverage its flexibility to provide more programmes that meet industry demand, nurturing more professionals to contribute to the development of Hong Kong and the region.”
HKMU achieved very good student intake results this year, with a 19% increase in the number of undergraduates admitted through the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS) compared to that in 2022. HKMU is actively planning the construction of a new campus to provide more support for teaching activities and student life on campus. The University is pleased to see the Government launch a new round of Land Grant Scheme and Start-up Loan Scheme to support the development of self-financing post-secondary institutions and the enhancement of their campuses.
Education is the cornerstone of social development and progress. Through close collaboration with the Government, industry and the community, HKMU will actively participate in the implementation of the relevant policies to promote the development of quality education and enhance Hong Kong's competitiveness.
