HKMU Academic and Creative Achievements Exhibition highlights academic research excellence
To commemorate the 35th anniversary of Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU), the “Metropolitan Cup” – a 3×3 basketball tournament – was held from 22 to 23 June. For the first time, the event invited 18 teams, representing tertiary education institutions from Hong Kong, Macau, the Mainland and Singapore, facilitating sports exchange among Asian tertiary education institutions. After two days of competitions, Dalian University of Technology was crowned Cup Champion.
The “Metropolitan Cup” is one of the highlights of this year's celebrations. The 18 basketball teams in the “Metropolitan Cup” were led by a Secretary of the Party Committee, a Vice President, Professors, Associate Professors and a Director of the Office of Sports Affairs. Basketball athletes from various tertiary education institutions in Asia came together to compete for the championship. More than 40 matches were held over the past two days, in which the athletes showcased their sports talent. The tournament not only fostered sports and cultural exchange, but also heated up the sports atmosphere on campus.

Results
The 18 teams were divided into four groups. The top two teams in each group competed for the Cup Champion, and the third and fourth place teams competing for the Plate Champion.
In the group stage, Dalian University of Technology and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University emerged victorious, securing their spot in the Cup final. Dalian University of Technology became the Cup Champion with a score of 17 to 15. In the Plate final, The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong faced off against Hong Kong Shue Yan University, with The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong ultimately becoming Plate Champion with a score of 13 to 11.
HKMU warmly welcomes basketball teams from various institutions for strengthening friendships
The “Metropolitan Cup” this year assembled elite athletes from Asian tertiary education institutions. HKMU Student Affairs Office orchestrated accommodations, transportation, and a welcome dinner on 21 June to facilitate mingling and networking across different institutions. Addressing the welcome dinner, HKMU Vice President (Research and Student Development) Prof. Ricky Kwok Yu-kwong remarked, “This is an opportunity for these athletes to learn from one another and showcase their talents. We hope that all participants will demonstrate exemplary sportsmanship, mutual respect, and unbridled passion for their sports.”
