HKMU Dragon Boat Team captures two awards at the 67th Festival of Sport

The HKMU Dragon Team put their best foot forward at the Dragon Boat Competition of the 67th Festival of Sport held on 21 April. They took the first runner-up in the Small Boat 100M Mixed Championship category and the second runner-up in the Small Boat 100M Post-secondary Open Championship category. Earlier the team participated in the 1688 USFHK Dragon Boat Competition 2023–2024 and was ranked fourth among seven university teams....

Chinese education student attains Gold Award in writing competition

The Bachelor of Education with Honours (Chinese Language Teaching) and Bachelor of Language Studies with Honours (Applied Chinese Language Studies) programme encourages students to take active part in writing competitions in order to brush up their writing skills. Year 3 student Kris Lam Hoi-ching entered the Hong Kong School Writing Competition 2023 organised by the International Children Culture & Arts Development Association with an essay for one of the set topics, 'The … I love” (「我愛的……」). The entry was judged as excellent in terms of topic delivery, expression skills, structure and grammar, and was given a Gold Award....

Graduate animation earns industry recognition

Sleepless Night, an animation directed by Animation and Visual Effects graduates Lau Wing-wa, Cheng Hoi-tong and Sau Cheuk-yiu, won Hong Kong Best Art in the 25th DigiCon6 ASIA Awards, representing yet another recognition of the artistic level of HKMU animators. Earlier, the film has earned the Best Creative Award in the Creative Achievement Awards 2023....

MA in Chinese Literature graduate's criticism of online fiction commended

Master of Arts in Chinese Literature graduate Yang Wei won the third prize in the Third Baima Lake National Internet Literature Criticism Competition (第三屆白馬湖全國網絡文學評論大賽) with his piece “On How 'Historical Possibility Novels' Shape Real Historical Figures: Analysis of the Image of Du Fu in Ma Boyong's Lychee in Chang'an” (論「歷史可能性小說」如何塑造真實歷史人物——解析馬伯庸《長安的荔枝》中的杜甫形象). His work was also published in Exploring Internet Literature: A Collection of the Winning Works of the 3rd Baima Lake National Internet Literature Criticism Competition (網文探秘——第三屆白馬湖全國網絡文學評論大賽獲獎作品集), edited by the Institute of Internet Literature of the China Writers Association....

Laurels for HKMU athletes at USFHK competitions

Our athletes have brought back more exciting news from this season's USFHK competitions! We were especially heartened by the exceptional achievements of the HKMU Taekwondo Team in the 2023–2024 USFHK Taekwondo Competition. In Men's Black Belt Kyorugi, Wong Tsz-hin won a gold medal in the under 74kg group, while Li Lap-fu captured bronze in the above 87kg group. In Men's Black Belt Poomsae, Xu Jin-xuan got a bronze medal in the Style 6 & Koryo category, while Li Lap-fu and Wong Tsz-shun received fourth place in the categories of Style 7 & Keumgang and Style 8 & Taebak respectively. The Men's Poomsae Team also took part in the team competition (for Style 6 & Koryo) and attained fourth place. Adding up all scores, the Men's Team was placed fourth....

Graduate writing receives prestigious literary awards

Two HKMU graduates received accolades at the 50th Youth Literary Awards. Kwan Lok-yiu, who graduated with a Master's degree in Chinese Literature, won the second prize in the Literary Criticism section of the Open Group with an article analysing the illness metaphors in the late-career poems of Hong Kong writer Kwun Moon-nam. Noting that Kwun's poems often draw on his personal life experiences, the article demonstrates the poet's contemplation on the body, sickness and death in the face of two major changes in life, namely his mother's death and his own anxiety disorder in terms of narrative shifts, illness metaphors and his experimentation with Cantonese language....

Engineering student team named overall champion in GBA innovation project competition

In the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Tertiary Institution Innovation Project Invitational Competition organised by the HKIE, students from the in the Civil and Environmental Engineering and Electronic and Computer Engineering programmes teamed up with colleagues from Shenzhen Institute of Technology and took away a total of five prizes, including the Overall Championship, winning a scholarship of $10,000....
