HKMU's newly opened Ina Ho Cantonese Opera Research Centre expected to release its first translated libretto this year

Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) is pleased to announce the grand opening of the Ina Ho Cantonese Opera Research Centre (the Centre) on 21 March. The Centre has embarked on a series of initiatives, including Cantonese opera libretto and excerpt translations, online course and appreciation, and exquisite performances, with the mission of promoting traditional Chinese culture and Cantonese opera, and introducing Chinese operatic art to local and international audiences. The first translated libretto is expected to be released in mid- to late-2024....

HKMU welcomes the TPB's approval of land planning for the Ho Man Tin site and proposes building a new campus positioned as “A Hub for Community Health and Wellness”

Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) welcomes the approval by the Town Planning Board (TPB) of an application submitted by the University for the use and development of a slope of land at the junction of Sheung Shing Street and Fat Kwong Street to build an academic complex. The University will next apply to the Government for a grant for the site to commence the construction of the new campus, and will maintain dialogue with relevant government departments to ensure that the new campus will benefit the University's development, students and the community....

HKMU launches a University-wide student mental health enhancement scheme, earmarking over $10 million to support students' mental health

There have been a number of tragic student suicides in Hong Kong in recent months, which has raised great concern in society about the mental health of students. In response to the Education Bureau's advocacy of promoting mental health awareness among students, Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) will earmark over HK$10 million in a three-year university-wide scheme to enhance student mental health (the Scheme), whose aim is to enhance students' understanding of and concern about mental health. By providing further education on psychological well-being, the Scheme aims to empower students to engage in self-help and in helping others, which may help reduce the potential risks....

HKMU receives a grant worth over HK$37 million from the EDB to establish an Industrial Centre for new industrialisation and develop related programmes

Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) was awarded a grant worth over HK$37 million from the “Enhancement and Start-up Grant Scheme for Self-financing Post-secondary Education” (ESGS) of the Education Bureau (EDB) to set up an Industrial Centre for new industrialisation, develop a new programme and enhance the existing programmes. HKMU President Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing said he believed that the establishment of the Industrial Centre would complement the Government's policy of promoting “New Industrialisation” and help nurture talent for industry....

HKMU provides Diploma of Applied Education Programmes for the “Ethics College” to support inmates in continuous learning

The Li Ka Shing School of Professional and Continuing Education (LiPACE) of Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) has collaborated with the Correctional Services Department (CSD) to offer Diploma of Applied Education Programmes for the“Ethics College”, which was established by the CSD to support inmates in continuous learning. CSD held an opening ceremony for the “Ethics College” on 30 November at the Pak Sha Wan Correctional Institution. The establishment of the College marks a new milestone in the provision of continuing education for inmates by the CSD and HKMU....

HKMU welcomes the selection of the Sports and Recreation Management Programme for the second round of the Pilot Project on the Development of Applied Degree Programmes

The Education Bureau announced the results of the second round of the Pilot Project on the Development of Applied Degree Programmes today (15 September). The Bachelor of Business Administration with Honours in Sports and Recreation Management programme of Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) was selected for the Pilot Project.
