    HKMU partners with the Kowloon City District Office and the Youth Development and Civic Education Committee to promote national security education through a themed board game

    The School of Arts and Social Sciences (A&SS) of Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU), in collaboration with the Kowloon City District Office and the Kowloon City District Youth Development and Civic Education Committee, designed a brand new “National Security Board Game”. The game will be distributed to primary schools in Kowloon City District in September this year to help students to learn more about national security. The board game is a key initiative under the “Kowloon City District National Security Education Community Promotion Programme”. A kick-off ceremony was held recently (6 April) at HKMU's Jockey Club Campus to mark the launch of the promotional campaign....

    MA in Chinese Literature graduate's criticism of online fiction commended

    Master of Arts in Chinese Literature graduate Yang Wei won the third prize in the Third Baima Lake National Internet Literature Criticism Competition (第三屆白馬湖全國網絡文學評論大賽) with his piece “On How 'Historical Possibility Novels' Shape Real Historical Figures: Analysis of the Image of Du Fu in Ma Boyong's Lychee in Chang'an” (論「歷史可能性小說」如何塑造真實歷史人物——解析馬伯庸《長安的荔枝》中的杜甫形象). His work was also published in Exploring Internet Literature: A Collection of the Winning Works of the 3rd Baima Lake National Internet Literature Criticism Competition (網文探秘——第三屆白馬湖全國網絡文學評論大賽獲獎作品集), edited by the Institute of Internet Literature of the China Writers Association....

    Dr Benson Tong of School of Arts and Social Sciences gets excellence award at international competition in modern Chinese poetry

    Dr Benson Tong Tsz-ben, an Assistant Professor of the School of Arts and Social Sciences, earlier participated in an international competition of modern Chinese poetry organised by the International Contemporary Chinese Poetry Study Association. The competition attracted submissions from Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Japan, Europe and the United States. After an anonymous evaluation by professional judges, Dr Benson Tong's poem “Sea Spray" was recognised by receiving the Award of Excellence...

    HKMU's newly opened Ina Ho Cantonese Opera Research Centre expected to release its first translated libretto this year

    Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) is pleased to announce the grand opening of the Ina Ho Cantonese Opera Research Centre (the Centre) on 21 March. The Centre has embarked on a series of initiatives, including Cantonese opera libretto and excerpt translations, online course and appreciation, and exquisite performances, with the mission of promoting traditional Chinese culture and Cantonese opera, and introducing Chinese operatic art to local and international audiences. The first translated libretto is expected to be released in mid- to late-2024....

    Graduate writing receives prestigious literary awards

    Two HKMU graduates received accolades at the 50th Youth Literary Awards. Kwan Lok-yiu, who graduated with a Master's degree in Chinese Literature, won the second prize in the Literary Criticism section of the Open Group with an article analysing the illness metaphors in the late-career poems of Hong Kong writer Kwun Moon-nam. Noting that Kwun's poems often draw on his personal life experiences, the article demonstrates the poet's contemplation on the body, sickness and death in the face of two major changes in life, namely his mother's death and his own anxiety disorder in terms of narrative shifts, illness metaphors and his experimentation with Cantonese language....

    Animation and visual effects student Chen Kam-san took part in the 28th Letter/Picture to Mt.Fuji Contest organised by the Fujinomiya-shi Government Office and the Fujinomiya-shi Board of Education of Japan. His magnificent art piece Torii & Fuji stood out and won the Grand Prize of the Painting/Drawing category in the High School Students and Adults group....

    HKMU invites the “Yao-Chinese Folktales” production team to Hong Kong for the first time to share their insights on animating Chinese mythology

    Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) is committed to promoting Chinese culture through research and diversified activities.
