Prof. Reggie Kwan wishes that OUHK students' works can cultivate more people’s appreciation for movies through the screenings at K11.
The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) collaborates with K11 Art Mall in the "MOVIE11 X OUHK Screening of Student Films & Animations" to present to the public a series of innovative works by creative arts students on three Saturdays in the first quarter of 2020.
Revolving around the theme of family, love and science fiction, all the original works shown at the three screenings are created by students of the OUHK Bachelor's degree programmes in Animation and Visual Effects, Creative Writing and Film Arts, and Cinematic Design and Photographic Digital Art. Film genres include 2D and 3D animations, stop motion, micro films, documentaries, etc.
A launch ceremony was held last Saturday (18 January) at the K11 Piazza and it was officiated by OUHK Provost Prof. Reggie Kwan Ching-ping, Vice President (Administration & Development) Prof. Tong Chong-sze, Dean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences Prof. Charles Kwong Che-leung, Head of Creative Arts cum Associate Professor of the School of Arts and Social Sciences Dr Rebecca Leung Mo-ling, and Senior Lecturer of the School of Arts and Social Sciences Mr Dan Ip Hiu-tan.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Reggie Kwan thanked the K11 Art Mall for partnering with the OUHK for the second year to provide valuable opportunities to the students to display their original works and demonstrate their boundless imagination and talents to the public. He felt proud that the students of the OUHK’s creative arts programmes have bagged illustrious achievements from a vast array of competitions and activities both locally and overseas over the past few years. He hoped that through the screenings, OU students’ works can cultivate more people's appreciation for movies.
Prof. Kwan also invited the public to visit this year’s OUHK Graduation Show of Creative Arts which will be held from 19 June to 29 June, where a wide range of creative works from the creative arts undergraduate programmes will be exhibited. The public can get a glimpse of the creativity and artistic talent of the OU students.
The first screening was held immediately after the launch ceremony. Eleven animations under the theme of "The Dreamers" were shown, including an award-winning piece Amaryllis which won the "Netizen Choice Award (Online Film Category)" at the 21st Bucheon International Animation Festival. Before the screening, students of the Creative Advertising and Media Design programme ran a game booth to showcase their creative works and interact with visitors.
The second screening will take place on 15 February (Saturday) with the theme "Carpe Diem" while the last screening under the theme of "Film Gathering" will be held on 21 March (Saturday). Various kinds of films including documentary and drama will be featured respectively.
