HKMU Academic and Creative Achievements Exhibition highlights academic research excellence
To tie in with the Sai Kung Tseung Kwan O Respect for the Aged Festival, the HKMU School of Nursing and Health Studies, in collaboration with Sai Kung and Tseung Kwan O Women's Association Limited, organised a variety of community health events with the theme “Home Safety for the Elderly”, with the objective of training Care Teams to provide health screening services and conduct home fall-prevention assessments for older people in the district.
The School of Nursing and Health Studies organised a diverse range of community health activities, including a train-the-trainer workshop last December to equip 90 Care Team volunteers and 30 students with fundamental knowledge on fall prevention. In January and February, the School recruited over 100 volunteers from the Care Teams, as well as HKMU staff and students, for a Fall Prevention Talk in the Tseung Kwan O district and health screenings for around 300 older individuals. They also visited 50 families with older members to assess their living environment and identify potential fall risks. These events both enhanced the safety of older people in their homes and provided valuable hands-on learning opportunities for our students.
School of Nursing and Health Studies Dean Prof. Janet Wong Yuen-ha extended her gratitude for the valuable experience gained through this collaboration with the district organisation. She commended her staff and students for their contribution to the community and their efforts to promote health education.
