To tie in with the significant milestone of university retitling, Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) launches a brand new public lecture series, “Talk of the Metropolis” in which government officials, leaders, scholars and experts in different professions will be invited to deliver lectures on a wide range of topics, fostering the exchange of knowledge and experience.
The first talk of “Talk of the Metropolis” was held today (10 September) at HKMU Jockey Club Institute of Healthcare. The Honourable Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, the Chief Executive of the HKSAR, was invited as the speaker of the first talk to share her insights on Hong Kong's long term development and opportunities.
Addressing the audiences in the welcoming remarks, Council Chairman Mr Michael Wong Yick-kam mentioned that HKMU is committed to providing quality tertiary education for learners from all walks of life. “As the only university in Hong Kong to provide open and distance learning, we will never forget our motto ‘Education for All’. Playing a vital role in this regard, the mission will further drive us to share knowledge with the general public,” he said. Mr Wong also expressed his thanks to the HKSAR government, the Chief Executive, Education Bureau and all the stakeholders for their support in the university retitling exercise, allowing a smooth approval of the University Amendment Bill by the Legislative Council.
To actively engage with the local communities and to share knowledge with Hong Kong citizens, all the talks of the “Talk of the Metropolis” will be broadcast in the University’s weekly “Knowledge for All” TV programme on TVB Pearl.
