VR metaverse in Kowloon City
Computer engineering student Kelly Chan won the Gold Award of The Greater Bay Area STEM Excellence Award 2023 (HKSAR) with her work “VR metaverse in Kowloon City”.
As the Government plans to renew the Kowloon City district, Kelly used a 3D model and virtual reality technology to present the Kowloon Walled City Park (the former Yaman Building of Kowloon Walled City, a declared monument) and the Lok Sin Tong Primary School, a historical building. She adopted the metaverse concept in recreating the landscape of Kowloon City with the aim of preserving its history and culture. Mini-games and interactive educational activities are also incorporated in her work to make it more interesting. Kelly hopes that her work can help promote the importance of history conservation among the public.
Organised by the Hong Kong Emerging Technology Education Association, the Award aims to enhance students' creativity and innovation, and recognise schools, teachers and young talents for their efforts in STEM.
