To celebrate the 35th anniversary of Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU), the University recently hosted alumni dinners in both Hong Kong and the Mainland to enhance communication with alumni while sharing its latest development with them. This was the first mainland alumni dinner organised by the Development and Alumni Affairs Office and attracted over 100 alumni from various provinces and cities, including Shenzhen, Shanghai and Xiamen, to commemorate this key milestone of the University.
The mainland alumni dinner, which took place in Shenzhen on 6 September 2024, was hosted by HKMU President Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing, Senior Advisor to the President Prof. Lui Yu-hon, and Vice President (Research and Institutional Advancement) Prof. Ricky Kwok Yu-kwong. They shared the University’s recent developments and future direction with the alumni. Also attending this key occasion were Hong Kong Metropolitan University Alumni Association (HKMUAA) President Jet Chou Sai-kit and representatives from the Executive Committee of the HKMUAA.
Prof. Lam expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to meet the alumni in Shenzhen. “The University accords great importance to alumni relations,” he said. “To strengthen connections with alumni, the University established the Development and Alumni Affairs Office. This is our first mainland alumni dinner since the office’s establishment, and I am touched by the enthusiastic participation of the alumni.”
He added that HKMU is a vibrant and flexible self-financing university that has made remarkable achievements, including being approved as Hong Kong's first University of Applied Sciences by the Education Bureau in March this year, collaborating with the Hong Kong International Aviation Academy to offer a Bachelor of Business Administration programme with a cadet pilot concentration, and developing a new campus. “I look forward to connecting with all alumni and joining hands with them to support the University's development and accomplish more in the years to come,” said Prof. Lam.
Prof. Lui provided an overview of the new campus project under planning, which is a significant initiative for addressing the needs associated with the rapid development of the University. Prof. Kwok highlighted the University’s development over the past 35 years and thanked the alumni for their unwavering support and participation.
HKMUAA President Chou encouraged the alumni to continue to participate actively in the University's activities and to support the University’s development through donations and various other means.
Prof. Lam, Provost Prof. Reggie Kwan Ching-ping, Vice President (Administration and Corporate Development) Prof. Charles Kwong Che-leung, Prof. Kwok and HKMUAA President Chou also hosted another alumni dinner on 12 September on the Ho Man Tin campus, attended by about 100 alumni from different generations to learn more about the latest developments of the University.
These two meaningful events commemorated HKMU’s 35 years of excellence in education and reinforced its strong ties with its alumni nationwide. As the University continues to advance, HKMU looks forward to cultivating a vibrant community dedicated to supporting the University’s mission of providing quality and excellence in education.
