Chapters
Chapter I
Towards a new generation
Like every progressive institution, HKMU has its eyes fixed firmly on the future. With a clear view of where it wants to be in the next five years, the University has embarked on some bold moves for change. They include a large-scale Academic Reform, multiple initiatives to drive research and knowledge transfer, moves to expand international connections, and a comprehensive Strategic Plan to define and shape the direction of its developments.
Chapter II
Upholding academic excellence
Having built recognised standards of academic quality across the University, HKMU is determined to maintain and extend its reputation for excellence. That involves keeping up with developments in technology and equipment, staying abreast of new social needs and trends, developing new programmes and research fields, and retaining talented staff in a competitive tertiary environment. Through a raft of exciting new initiatives over the year, HKMU has been consolidating and expanding its excellence across the board.
Chapter III
Putting students first
First and foremost HKMU educates. Our goal each year is to produce a new generation of talent that is competent, committed, principled, and switched on to the latest technological and social trends. We also want our students to be fully career-ready, with an entrepreneurial spirit and a readiness to work hard doing things they love. This ambition is what drives all our efforts, across multiple spheres, to shape our students into the best possible versions of themselves.
Chapter IV
Making an impact through research
HKMU's research profile has risen sharply in recent years, and this momentum is continuing to accelerate. In the past year, HKMU researchers across the board have engaged in numerous practical and meaningful projects that are making a direct impact for good on our society. In the process, many have won prestigious peer recognition and attracted important research funding.
Chapter V
Establishing fruitful partnerships
HKMU is intrinsically connected to our wider society, for which it acts as an essential skills- and knowledge-provider. To fulfil its roles as a servant of society, a knowledge source for industry, a supporter of current and past learners and much more, HKMU has been constantly seeking and forging fruitful partnerships over the year. They are enabling us to make a real difference to the many different stakeholders we serve.
Chapter VI
Beyond physical limits: Thinking outside the box
Throughout a year of teaching and research achievements, HKMU has not neglected the importance of enhancing and expanding its physical infrastructure. In the face of space restrictions that apparently impose physical limits on its ambitions, the University has been thinking “outside the box” to optimise available space, renovate and update wherever possible, while also locating further space for expansion in the future.
Chapter VII
Finance
Despite the continued impact of COVID-19 and external factors, such as inflation, rising interest rates, and geopolitics, on the University's finances this past year, the University delivered a robust financial performance in 2022–23 driven by income growth and control of costs. Consolidated net surplus increased from HK$213.8 million in 2021–22 to HK$513.4 million in 2022–23. A strong balance sheet was maintained, with consolidated net assets at HK$5,107.6 million and significant levels of cash and investments of HK$5,254.1 million being held.
